This spring break, Cal High’s very own Model UN team took a week-long trip to Boston, where they fiercely debated with other delegates, argued on topics such as the 2008 Financial Crisis, immersed themselves in the Salem witch trials, and created new hierarchies of the Ancient Gods of Egypt.
Besides the three-day conference, they made their way around the city and got a chance to explore Boston. Fourth-year MUN member Che Ramirez captured photos of the scenic areas the team explored, such as the Harvard campus, traversing through the subway, and the ports of Boston Harbor.
President and senior MUN member Carter Crail stated, “The most memorable part of the trip was definitely being around all my teammates for the last time. During my 4 years, I’ve seen everyone grow and become better delegates, people, and become who they are now. Being at the final step of my high school journey and seeing others at the beginning made it a very memorable experience.”
In committee, delegates took part in a several-hour conference, and hastily passed motions, learned to speak at a

moment’s notice, and gave informative and captivating speeches on their chosen topics. Vice President of Public Affairs Lucia Montoya shared that since there were so many people in her committee, it forced her to move out of her comfort zone and talk to new people.
“It actually improved my MUN skills by forcing me to establish myself as a delegate amongst so many other people who were trying to do the same thing,” Lucy noted.
The Condors soared above and beyond in this conference, bringing home four awards to commemorate their hard work. Carter Crail, Izel Ortiz, Damian Ramirez, and Angel Heredia smile proudly in this photo, displaying their awards and demonstrating their Condor pride in committee!
The Condors were also provided with the rare opportunity to explore prestigious universities such as Boston College, Harvard, and M.I.T. This opened a door to the older delegates as they looked around at their possible future.
Former Cal High Alumni Hannah Martinez and Lauren Anderson gave the team a tour through Harvard and M.I.T., making sure they knew the ins and outs of the campuses.
Even through all the tireless effort, the team still made time together to relax and bond during their free time. From exploring the city to watching movies in the hotel rooms, it’s safe to say the MUN team inevitably grew closer and stronger throughout this trip, further proving the “united” in Model United Nations.
