Summary
The novel ‘No Country for Old Men’ is best regarded for its theatrical adaptation, showing the cost of changing times, human greed and the conflict between the old order and new chaos. however the novel pushes deeper into these narratives, with a look into each of the three main characters Minds we can see the different mentalities of the characters: Anton Chagrin with his old chaos ideology – holding on to the ideals that fate controls someone’s life and that he is the instrument of it–, Sheriff Bell with his ideals of law and order to keep the peace – Representing the ideas of justice, and simple small town community. And finally, Llewellyn Moss – a look at the average citizen during the 1980s and how they are trying to adapt to growing economic troubles and the trauma of the Vietnam War.
Plot
The number follows a simple premise of the character Llewellyn Moss finding approximately 2 million dollars in cash at a location of a drug deal gone wrong, assumingly being around the time of the rise of the cartels. He takes the money and stashes it in his home, where he lives with his wife,e Carla Jean. Yet, he returns to the scene to give water to a dying drug deal, er in which he is discovered, and his license plate is taken by the local Scouts of the cartel, leading to his identification. From this, he is mercilessly hunted by The Hitman, named Anton Chigurn, a psychopathic individual who only follows the dictates of fate.
The novel delves into the idea that the reader should not be rooting for Llewellyn Moss; it pushes the idea that the hypercapitalistic greed that drove him to take the money was the instrument of his downfall. And even his empathy for getting the drug dealer water was another negative factor in this, as Chigurn is hunting him, he refuses to go to the authorities, such as Sheriff Bell. An example of the newfound skepticism in the government following the Vietnam War: even Sheriff Bell has doubts about the government, and More Of The Changing Times. How he no longer fits in this new world, a world where chaos is rising,g and rather than local crime, it’s being replaced by large-scale organized cartel violence, in a world where the local authorities are being ignored due to their insignificance.
It counteracts the typical action-packed novel that it is based on,n with it killing the main character Llewellyn Moss off the page, not even from the Hitman Anton Chigurhn but rather a low-level cartel member, pushing the idea that fate is unreliable and everybody’s at risk to suffer at the hand of it.
the novel ends on the Bland note of sheriff Bell retiring, he sees that there’s no point in staying in the front of the chaos and trying to hold it back because he knows that eventually it will just take over, it shows how in these Changing Times the people of the past and old ideologies eventually just gets Swept Away becoming irrelevant as the more Cutthroat ideologies of the others replace conventional wisdom.
Point of the Novel
Even if the novel seems incredibly grim, its ideals are still incredibly important. It pushes the idea that in Changing Time, you can either adapt or you will fall behind, which is, in reality, a truth that many people refuse to believe: the truth that times will change, and if a person does not adapt, they will fall into obscurity.
It remains relevant today, as it shows that even amid the changes that naturally come with time, people almost always get hurt, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Change always causes damage, no matter what. Whether it be putting traditional Lawman into irrelevance, or pressing a class of people for change, change always causes damage to a group. Now, whether that group rightfully deserves it, such as criminals during a change of Law and Order, is irrelevant to the equation.
Ending
The novel is a worthwhile read it explores the theme of human nature as well as how a person could react in a situation that they’re put in when the walls are crushing in aside them so to speak and how they will react to the situation, even if you are just mildly interested in the novel from the theatrical release i still is right with information that was left out, Readiness a person will not feel happy or sad the feeling that it brings forth is just uneasiness whether it’s from the uncertainty or just a reality of the situation making it a true classic.
