Just yesterday, the Boys Varsity Basketball team kicked off the first round of CIF playoffs against the Temescal Canyon Titans. To say “The Nest” was hyped would be an understatement. While our home gym is always electric, last night reached a new level as the bleachers transformed into a “White Out,” with students and fans packed in to support the squad.
However, the high-energy atmosphere was merely the backdrop for the high-stakes battle unfolding on the hardwood. With the Titans looking to spoil the home-court advantage, the Condors knew that every possession would determine whether their postseason journey continued or came to a sudden halt.
The intensity peaked in the fourth quarter. With only four minutes remaining, the Condors held a steady 59–42 lead, stretching it to 61–42 just sixty seconds later. Showing relentless determination, the team effectively ran laps around the opposition until the final buzzer, solidifying a dominant 73–49 victory.
This commanding win was fueled by standout individual performances: Jair Linares (#11): Provided a massive spark off the bench, put up an impressive 12 points in just 19 minutes of play. Augie Gomez (#0): Proved clinical from the floor, draining three field goals—including a clutch three-pointer—and going perfect on three critical free throws.
This performance didn’t just secure a win; it sent a clear message to the rest of the CIF bracket that the Condors are a force to be reckoned with.
It has already been a banner year for the program, boasting an 18–11 overall record and a 5–3 league finish, earning them 2nd place in the Del Rio League. The Condors now carry a massive wave of momentum into Round 2 tomorrow evening, where they will match up against Rancho Mirage High School. If they can maintain this level of shooting efficiency and continue to control the paint, a Round 3 berth is well within their reach.
