In honor of Kindness Week, our ASB made affirmation hearts for each individual student. “When I saw my name, I thought how unique it was and that it makes me be-leaf in myself too,” said freshman Melanie Covarrubias when receiving her heart with the words “Be-leaf in yourself” written on it.
The affirmations were cute altogether. The silly puns, the cute drawings, and the work ASB put into making them really made it all the more touching. “I thought, oh, how cute! I loved it.” Mia Sandidge said enthusiastically, showing off her Heart on her shirt.
When walking around, you would see kids wearing their hearts in all sorts of places. Whether that be their shirt, pants, or backpacks, kids were always showing them off. Some even stuck them in places on walls beside them, or in walls in the classroom near their seat. “My friends didn’t want theirs, so I took the liberty of taking them.” Said Junior Nathan Santiago, wearing hearts all over his body.
Plenty of students searched for their names on their hearts. It was very fun seeing what type of affirmation was written on them, and many students enjoyed it. “When I first saw my heart, it felt like people cared and made me feel seen.” Tiffany Ngayam stated. ASB did a wonderful job on this first Kindness Week event. Their hard work is greatly appreciated, and I’m sure the rest of the Cal High students are looking forward to more events like this!
