It’s rivalry week, Condors! With the annual California-La Serna football match on the horizon and fast-approaching, we anticipate school spirit will soon be in the air, and good times to be had at the big game.
We interviewed the head football coach, Patrick Winchell, to see his thoughts on the sport, rivalry, and the camaraderie it creates.
According to him, “Everyone on the team is unified leading into rivalry week; after all, it’s a big event, probably one of the biggest around this time of year. The only game that might be comparable is our Homecoming game.”
To elaborate on this, he stated, “All the kids out there are working hard, and the freshmen, JV, as well as our varsity team, are all developing very well. We have a young varsity squad, so there’s still a lot of potential for improvement for the team ahead in coming years. The freshman and JV team are truly the future of the program, and are inspired by the varsity guys.”
The team is keeping it consistent in training, the reason being that they need to save their energy to put up a good fight against La Serna, who won the Division 2-AA state championship last year.
With the end of this game, a final assessment may be made by the coach to figure out what the football team’s strengths and weaknesses are, and adjust accordingly so that we may have an even better team next year.
No matter what happens on Friday, let’s come out and support our very own football team and make some memories!
