California High School’s Choir has just marked off their first field trip of the year, starting off with the LA Master Chorale located at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Before the bus arrived, Veronica, a member of Vocal Ensemble, said, “I’m pretty excited!” The group also demonstrated their excitement by chatting amongst each other as well as indulging in delicious danishes that Mr. Hawkins (Choir Director) provided to begin the morning trip!
On the way to the musical event, the bus was filled with the sound of laughter, conversations, music, and beautiful harmonies sung throughout the trip that were all worth reminiscing about.
Once they made it to the Chorale, eyes were lit up, and jaws were dropped! The scenery outside was splendid, consisting of a gorgeous blue and white porcelain water fountain along with wavy metal walls from the exterior of the building, a student in the crowd even shouting, “Wow, look at that building over there!” As for the interior, the Master Chorale had a warm aura surrounding all of the choir, orchestra, seating arrangements, and the well-known organ instrument.
After students took their seats, we immediately received a welcome and introduction on behalf of the Chorale. The music played by the orchestra sounded angelic, and the choir sang in an opera style that was all very pleasant to the ear, the lyrics speaking mostly about God, the Virgin Mary, followed by bible references, and the whole aspect of Catholicism in general.
Adding on, students were also given a packet for note-taking and eventually got to writing. Some seemed very focused on each piece,
not missing a single detail to write down from the music, while others were more about simply listening to the rehearsal. Yet another one of our Cal High choir members, Ilanya Klausmeier, stated, “I thought that the performance sounded heavenly; it was the perfect blend of singing and orchestra.” Multiple members remained impressed with the quality of the performance.
Overall, everyone seemed to have had a memorable experience. Mr. Hawkins mentioned, “I think the trip went pretty well!” Not only were we able to learn from a professional choir and get a good grasp of information, but we also had the opportunity to bond with one another. Because not only are we a choir at a school, but we are also a family. The California High School Choir looks forward to more memories like this!
