Last Saturday protests erupted in Downtown Los Angeles, which was a result from the ICE raids and arrests that happened across LA County these arrests have impacted people who are part of a minority group. However even though the protests were supposed to be peaceful. Some of the protests turned very violent and vandalized business. U.S president Donald Trump stated that he has deployed California National Guard Troops at his order over the Governor of California, this is the first time that a president has deployed the National Guard troops without the order of the Governor of California since 1960’s when U.S president Lyndon B Johnson ordered National Guard troops to enforce federal law, which was for civil rights of citizens in the south. What is now happening today is uncertain since the order from president Trump of National guard troops and the order of more than 700 U.S active duty Marines to be deployed in Los Angeles local officials have no idea what those troops are going to be doing in Los Angeles since California National Guard troops are currently guarding federal buildings across Los Angeles. According to CNN mayor Bass said “Local Law enforcement saved the day not the National Guard”. Yesterday California Attorney General Rob Bonta has filed a lawsuit against president Trump, to return the California National Guards under the control of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Today as of June 10th, 2025 according to CNN: “California asks court for emergency oder blocking Trump administration from using National Guard to enforce laws in the state”. The protests don’t look like they’re going to ease up any time soon as protesters are demanding for the end of ICE and the end of ICE raids. In Whittier there is minor protests that are happening however they have been peaceful, but once again the protesters in Whittier are currently fighting for the same cause as the protesters in Los Angeles.
