It has become clear after the 2024 presidential results that Vice President Harris will not become the first female President; however, over the past couple of months, even after the presidential debates no one could’ve expected Vice President Harris to lose by a landslide. The election was not as close as some expected, which raises questions about why the polls were so wrong. Also, the Democrats lost control of the Senate, which will give incoming President Donald Trump authority to appoint anyone he wants to be a part of his cabinet. The democrats not only lost the Senate but they also couldn’t gain back the House of Representatives which gives President Trump a Trifecta, meaning he will have all 3 branches of government on his side to pass everything he wants at ease with no opposition other than the senate where some bills could be filibustered. However, the House majority is looking to be slim come January making it difficult for Republicans to pass some legislation.
Still, many people in the Democrat party are blaming each other for who caused this election to become a blowout. According to the [AP News]
“The biggest onus of this loss is on President Biden,” said Andrew Yang, who ran against Biden in 2020 for the Democratic nomination and endorsed Harris’ unsuccessful run. “If he had stepped down in January instead of July, we may be in a very different place.” This is what many members of the Democratic Party are saying right now as the party is currently in shambles and is now starting to think about how they should appeal to voters. Also, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont said according to USA Today, “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them.” “While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.” Also, President Biden will go down in history as the first president since LBJ to serve only 1 term as President. However, he leaves office with 2 wars still going on and with a low approval rating.
Former President Donald Trump will become the first president to serve a 2nd non-consecutive term since Glover Clevand which was over 100 years ago.
