On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Cal High’s Varsity Girls Tennis team beat the rivaling La Serna Lancers 11-7, making this the second year in a row that the girls tennis team has dominated the Del Rio League rivalry.
While each member of the team contributed to this win, Alicia Espeseth was the team MVP, winning all three of her personal face-offs.
Last year, the tennis team won the Del Rio League title for the first time since 2015. They advanced to the final round of CIF-SS D5, winning 4 consecutive matches against tough teams in order to get that far.
While last year’s team included some very reliable seniors, this year’s team has been stacked with returning varsity athletes—-along with their experience.
There are eight seniors on the tennis team, and four of them have been playing since freshman year. This creates an advantage for the Lady Condors as they know what it takes to win, and can perform just as well, if not better than last year.
The girls varsity tennis team will take on the Whittier Cardinals at home next Tuesday on October 10th at 3:15PM: Come out and support!!
